MSR Windpro burn test

We had a question yesterday concerning how long an 8oz Isopropane canister would keep the BEMCO oven at 400 deg. I had one in the shop and I decided to go ahead and test it out.
The outside temp was 52 deg. I lite the MSR Windpro stove and heated the oven to 400deg, then turned it down just a bit to maintain the 400 deg temp. Set the stop watch and I was a bit amazed that it kept the oven at 400 deg for 4 hours and 57 min. By the time the test was over the outside temp was 42 deg.
So in conclusion you could be safe to say that one 8oz canister should last through 10 (ten) 20 min bake times or 200 min and still have about 97 min of fuel left. That's enough for 10 meals or about 5 days worth of cooking. Of course this would change depending upon the wind conditions and temperatures.

This shows how little fuel it takes to bake in the BEMCO Backpacker Oven.

  1. Just placed my order tonight for the 7 inch one. My son and I are going to test it out this summer then take it to Disney this fall at Fort Wilderness.

I'm glad to see the bit about the canister since that is the type of stove I bought (along with your stand).
