Big Pine lakes 10/16/2009

We are planning a trip to the Palisade Glacier area this weekend Friday, Saturday & Sunday. With the recent storm coming in for Tuesday, Wednesday and part of Thursday we expect to have any where from 3 to 8 inches of snow on the ground. This will make for some great pictures of the area. We are planning on seeing all the lakes and possibly going up to the Glacier to get pictures of the entire basin.

This is an equipment list of the items we are bringing and food for the three day trip.

Three day gear list

• Jan Sport big bear 82 backpack 59.5oz

• Mountain Hardware 20 deg bag 40oz

• Silk liner for sleeping bag 6oz

• Mountain Hardware Sprite 1 tent 56.15oz

• Backpacker Oven 24oz

• Cook set 1 qt pot 8oz Includes mixing bowl & baking pans.

• Water filter 11oz

• Camp chair 16.5oz

  • Snow Gear , Crampons, Trecking poles  16.5oz

Total pack weight without food & Water =344.05oz or 21.5lbs

I figure the entire pack will weigh in at under 30 lbs and this will make for a very easy trip. The last trip we went on my entire pack weight was under 40lbs and that was for a total of 8 days. This was the Horseshoe Meadows to Onion Valley trip in August. We took 16lbs of food for each person and we came back with about 2 days food left over between the three of us.
What we will be eating on this trip:

 Dinners
  • Lasagna
  • Calzones
  • Brownies for 1
Breakfast
  • Biscuits and gravy
  • Fried Eggs and Banana nut bread
Lunches
  • Trail mix
  • Instant soup
  • Possably Pizza
This should total out at about 60oz of dry food or 3.75lbs.
